Proper grooming of the Miniature Schnauzer assists in optimum health and maintains the accurate image of the breed.
If you are thinking of acquiring a Miniature Schnauzer, you should first familiarize yourself with the regular grooming requirements of the breed.
Most Mini Schnauzers will need regular upkeep by someone who is knowledgeable in correct schnauzer trimming techniques. Your schnauzer should continue to resemble a schnauzer rather than a cocker spaniel (which commonly happens when owners hand their dogs over to groomers unfamiliar with correct schnauzer grooming.) Ask the breeder of your puppy - or a breed club representative - for recommendations of reliable groomers in your area. Depending on your home environment and the amount of time the dog spends outside, grooming should generally take place once every four to six weeks.
Alternatively, you may choose to groom your schnauzer yourself! While it may take a little practice, over time you will be able to groom your dog appropriately - and save some money too!
